Getting Started
These instructions will get you started using OrbWiz with the Desktop Extension. The Desktop Extension performs a number of tasks relating to the PC desktop, such as responding to popup dialogs, and populating text fields.
If you want an overview of OrbWiz before diving in, please read the introduction to OrbWiz Assistants.
Getting started with OrbWiz requires these steps:
- Create a Watson Speech-to-Text account
- Create a login and start a trial of the Desktop Extension
- Download and run the OrbWiz updater utility
- Perform inital OrbWiz setup
- Follow along with the Desktop Assistant tutorials
OrbWiz translates captured audio (spoken commands) into text using IBM’s Watson Speech-to-Text (STT) service. To use OrbWiz you will need a Watson STT account. See FAQ-watson for instructions.
Use of an extension requires a subscription, and creating a subscription requires a login. Most extensions will provide a free trial period. See FAQ-login for instructions on creating a login, and FAQ-subscribe for intructions on subscribing to the Desktop Assistant extension.
If you are logged into this site, the Extensions page will provide a link to download the updater utility. The updater utility will perform an initial install of the OrbWiz application and any subscribed extensions. After an initial install, it will update the application and subscriptions as new releases become available. See FAQ-updater for instructions.
In this step you do some initial OrbWiz setup, such as entering your Watson STT URL and API key, and checking that you have a microphone, and it works ok. See FAQ-orbwiz for instructions.
Tutorials will take you through some examples, showing you how to configure your assistants for different desktop tasks. When you have completed the above steps, go to the Desktop Assistant Tutorials.
